Camp Susque 2011

Hello Followers!
Do you recall how we reported being pulled over by a sheriff at about 1:30am because of how bald our tires were? Well,  along came August and Camp Susque and we still had our same terribly out of shape tires, with the prospect of a 7 or 8 hr drive down to Pennsylvania.
Part 1: Mom again had trouble controlling the van.
Part 2: (We found this out later) Little did we know that we had a Christian lady, Mrs. Morrano, driving behind us who was praying about calling the police on us because she thought our messy driving was due to other causes than tires. She prayed, told her son to pray and they both agreed the Lord was saying don't call the police on them. This is the first testimony of this remarkable woman, she never does anything without praying.
Later on that day when she arrived at Camp Susque she saw our van and needless to say was shocked!
Part 3: As we unpacked we met our neighbors for the week, which "happened"(providentially) to be the Morrano's, who had the room beside us. On Wed she approached Mom and asked if she could buy new tires for our van, Mom was shocked and speechless, she didn't come to the full realization of it until later.
Mrs. Morrano took care of everything, we stood back in absolute awe and amazement. I've heard of things like this happening to missionaries and other Christians but to see it actually happen in real life? That's amazing. Imagine, a total stranger just comes out of the blue and says, "I want to buy your tires" Not only was it awesome to see the Lord bring this about in such a way as to make His absolute Sovereignty known but it was great to talk to Mrs. Morrano as well. She has had a life of difficulties in which she has had nothing to cling to but the Sovereignty and faithfulness of God thus to hear her testimony of the works God has done in her life was amazing! She is a woman with a strong faith in the Lord and it built our faith incredibly to hear her story.

Such was the beginning of our week, the beginning of a peaceful, restful week surrounded by mountains safely tucked away in the valley that is Camp Susque.

The sweet little girls

Malena, Alina, Tabitha, Missie
We arrived on Sunday so we had the afternoon to fellowship with each other!

I really like this picture of Alina!

It was so good to see the Maira's again! And to get to know Missie better!

Thanks for the picture Alina!

Snapping pictures

Chief Bill likes to use living illustrations in his sermons and this is one of them that he used to show that we're never alone. Even when it may seem dark and lonely (blindfolds) we can depend on the Lord with full confidence of His trustworthiness to guide us through difficult circumstances, He illustrated that aspect by allowing the blindfolded persons to pick one or two trustworthy persons to guide them through the maze of blocks.

Later on that night we played President

The little people had a blast playing in the rain!

The next day, Monday, was warm and sunny, perfect for swimming in the pool!

The Mothers enjoyed each others company and conversation

Malena is quite the talented young lady!

Dinner time with the Fournier's!

Volleyball!!!

The little people played Ga-ga,
have you ever heard of such a name?

Ultimate Frisbee
Go Mrs. Tavares!

Ending the night with ice cream and conversation

Rainy day outside, warm hearts of laughter and fun inside!
We were listening to good old Portuguese music, Mom and Mrs. Tavares were having a wonderful time recalling all the lyrics and singing the songs to us in Portuguese! The rest of us couldn't understand the lyrics but we enjoyed the music anyway!

Spurred on much laughter!
"A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." Proverbs 17:22

The next day we introduced Contra dancing to Camp Susque!

Thankfully, Mrs. Tavares, Jonathan, Amanda, Samuel, and the Maira ladies knew the dances so they helped us teach them and everyone had fun! An adorable blonde 2 or 4 year old little girl came up to us and told us that she enjoyed dancing and was wondering if we would do it again. That was cute!

Two wonderful Christian women

Riflery class begins! Stephanie's lookin a little nervous there or maybe she shot something she wasn't supposed to hmmm....lol

Trespassers!
Ah! Don't shoot!

Practicing the second position, they made us practice all the positions before they allowed us to do it with a gun.

Emily is simply a natural marks-woman!

Mr. Fournier

Please note: the circle in the middle is Mom's target, but that's nothing compared to her next target! (pictured a little bit below)

Right hand-dominant, left-eye dominant,
Yep, I'm one of those privileged individuals. I can't close my left eye without closing my right eye as well, thus I shot left-handed so I could close my right eye and keep my left eye open, if you recall last year they made me wear a bandanna. This year I chose a less humiliating course of action, so I wouldn't have to look like a pirate while shooting.

Feminine ladies yes but they know how to shoot.
She rode with an infant on her lap and a 3-yr old behind her...Each man and boy carried his rifle and ammunition, and each woman her pistol"
~Jane Trimble of the wagon train crossing the Appalachian mountains heading to Kentucky in the year 1760~
That's the quote this picture reminded me of.

Cuteness with a gun

Serious about getting her marks right

The whole riflery class reminiscent of last year's class.

Mom was very proud of her target! She shot this 3/4 inch circle about 45-50 feet away. All I got to say is if she's mad at you, don't run in a straight line. lol

Marking off my shots, well, it's better than last year's!

Amanda found a little friend!

And so did Nicholas!
Look at the size of that caterpillar! That would be one happy bird to find that guy!

Amanda, Jillian and Stephanie are all set to go torture themselves hiking up rattlesnake mountain, they actually saw two rattlesnakes!

Stretching the muscles

Jogging in place

Ha!

They set off!

While they went up the mountain Sethyboy played with the big ball

I talked to Malena and Cheif Scott

Mom and I played Catch Phrase which eventually devolved into talking

Chapel the next morning

Caught off guard by the camera while talking about the book in his hands, Revivals and Revivalism

Seth and Nicholas

Natalie and Hannah

Joshua was playing with Seth

Time for the volleyball clinic

Their so cute the way they walked around camp like they were little adults having very "important" conversations ;)
