Paul Washer Conference in RI

On May 4 & 5th Grace Community Baptist Church held their annual Southern New England Reformation Conference and Paul Washer was the speaker!!!! We were ecstatic when we heard that Paul Washer was coming to RI! It was so awesome to hear him speak again!

Stephanie and I were driving with the Barton's in their car and they saw this sign that we all thought was pretty cool. If we had the time we would have liked to drive by just to see... "What is an epic yard sale anyway???"

Becky, Emily and Ruthie :)

Mr. Hebert (pronounced A-bear) and Abraham,
Mr. Hebert is so much fun!

Lizzy and Jonathan
I'm so glad you guys came to the conference!

The main room full of people
This room was packed including the balcony! I heard that the total number of attendees was about 200, we've got work to do in New England!

The Kaisers, Stearns and our family all sat together
While we were waiting, Stephanie walked around with the camera and took pictures of our friends who attended.

It was nice to see the MacBeth's again!

A shot from the balcony

Paul Washer praying before he began his exposition of John 15 which lasted the two days of the conference and the Sunday following! He was supposed to preach on The Impossibility of the Christian Life on Friday evening and then on Saturday he would speak on: Pentecost-Acts 2:1-28 and then on Holiness-Deuteronomy 6:4-9, however in classic Paul Washer fashion he only made it through a few verses of John 15 on Friday evening, thus in the following talks he continued in John 15.
All sermons have been uploaded to Sermon Audio.com however I have the links below so you don't have to look for them. Friday Evening's Service was: The Impossibility of the Christian Life Part 1, John 15:1
Here are some of my notes from this service, you can listen to the sermon and see how I did on taking notes. ;) If anything sounds odd or unbiblical, just listen to the sermon and you'll be able to hear the context and better understand it. :)

-The Word of God is undervalued in our modern day
-We must grasp this idea of faith-everything we do practically is by faith, our ministry is a ministry of faith
-We are not to allow any thought to stray, we take it and say no, I will take captive every thought.
I must understand this chapter(John 15) so I can live!
So much but so little power. A struggle yes, but not defeat, we can go from glory to glory.
There's so much more out there and its ours. The promises are ours, we are the ones living in the fullness of time.

Vs 1- Jesus is the source of all spiritual life, to grab a hold of his garment and say I will not let go! Not just for our justification, but to grab on to him for everything. Psalm 80:8, Isaiah 5:1-6,
Look at ever faithful Noah, but yet at the end he failed. Moses-he himself could not even enter in, what does this tell us? That man cannot do it on his own. "Whenever man enters the picture all you can expect is failure."
We are not the vine, the god who governs over his church is a jealous God.
The men and women who have been used of God have one thing in common, that they are born of God and they bear fruit unto God. You must have a heart that is longing for that; God, I want to be all for you.
"My only regrets is not what I've been given but what I've kept and it hangs onto me like a cankasor."
You are not your own, you were bought at a price.
Blessed are the pure in heart-undivided loyalty to God. To be his vineyard, to bear fruit for him. I want to give more to God than what I have given,
Strength-that I love you with all my strength
Breath-I'll give it back to you to praise you.
To want one thing-to be His. To want to be His, to want to bear fruit.
You don't dedicate yourself to the ministry to get glory from people.
Illustration of beautiful tree in the forest- no one can see it, but God is glorified through it because He sees it.
It's Jesus alone who is the true vine
If your going to get any power in this life, your going to get it from an intimate, real, personal relationship with Jesus. Those who are in communion with Him do not hunger or thirst! If your hungry, it's God screaming run to me! Run to Christ in Bible study and prayer. Being alone with God in the closet, being on your knees, reading your Bible.
Every time a Christian feels hunger it's Christ crying out you are fallen, fallen, fallen, return to me!

vs 7-Church History: Men and Women who were known to wrap themselves up in their closets night after night, spend months on end studying the scriptures. These words are true, every time you thirst, every time your hungry that's God calling you.
Power, life, that's what's in the balance, talk nobody cares about but the power is what speaks.
We are still prone to chase after false systems-Jeremiah 2:11-13
Pagans rarely change their gods but God's people who have a true God often change their gods. God is calling all of heaven to look at this sin, when we go to anyone other than God to fill us and satisfy us. God is angered when he sees us hungry and thirsty.
The Christian life is walking around not wanting to offend Christ. It's not don't do that because the law says not to, it's don't do that because it will offend Christ. You will run to everyone else but not run to Christ.
There are no priests but Christ, run to him.
If you want to mature, run to Christ.
Church websites often put the focus off of Christ, when you first go onto a website you see a bunch of smiling faces, welcoming you to their affirming, encouraging congregation. It's all about the congregation. They replace Christ with the congregation.
Number one goal as a homeschooler- that my children would see Christ in everything. It's about being devoted to a person, it's about loving a person. (The person of Christ) The best thing to do for children is to show them you are rotten without Christ.
Yes, your children need morality, but if that's all you give them, congratulations you are raising a hypocrite! Still a wild man, only the love of Christ can take his heart.
Puritans etc, cannot replace Christ. Would rather have all their books burned than that someone would read them and stop there.
Iron Man Illustration-If you don't have the power or the life then it doesn't matter. The life that we produce as Christians is directly related to prayer. The power and the life is found in prayer. Prevailing and endurance with God is what makes the difference! The battles are won in prayer, if there are enemies to be vanquished it is in prayer, it is the hidden life of a man.
Revelation 3:17
Poverty of spirit is the key to the Christian life, all of Gods workings in your life are designed to create in you poverty of spirit. Weakness is not a hindrance but a catalyst to the Christian life, your problem is not how weak you are, it's how strong you think you are. Weakness is the catalyst to spiritual life, the devil will use your weakness to drive you away. Everything should cause you to cling that much closer to Christ. When I don't want to cling to Christ that's when I must!
"I'm going to trust in Christ and if that's not it then I'm going to hell because I'm not going to trust in anything else."

I was taking pictures on the balcony and then I saw this little face peeking through the crowd, smiling up at me, ready for me to snap a picture of her! lol

Smile!

The hardcore fellowshippers are moved to the parking lot.
I love how our church family enjoys being with each other, we enjoy each other's company too much to stop fellowshipping and go home!
Lilya's face shows the excitement that occurs when we all get together! :D

 Sunday Morning

Paul Washer was going to be speaking at Grace Community for their Sunday morning service, so we asked Dad if he wanted to go hear Paul Washer and he said yes, so we went!
Sethyboy took this picture of Mom

Our handsome little man

This is how we avoid being late for church!
 It's a team effort!

Grace Community has a Sunday school service and this Sunday Paul Washer gave his testimony which was awesome to hear, we'd never heard his full testimony like that before! Here's the link to it so you can hear it for yourself: Paul Washer's Testimony
Before he gave his testimony he gave two warnings and pitfalls to be avoided when discussing your testimony,
1. There's a danger to present yourself as a victim rather than a culprit
2. Men live to talk about themselves, be Christ-centered and avoid putting yourself as the center of attention.

And then he delivered this awesome sermon: The Impossibility of the Christian Life Part 3
John 15- He's not talking about those who publicly deny Christ, the question is, Do you bear fruit?
Vs. 6: "If any do not abide in me" Birth is natural, death is not. Death is supernatural it is a judgement.
Vs. 3: Apart from me you can do nothing, all spiritual life flows from him. The father is the vinedresser.
Relentless, consistent manifestation of God in your life, you cannot run wild like a dog in the yard, I know he will come after you. You become a vessel than can be fruitful.
Taking the promises of God and alloying them to your life through the experience that God has allowed in your lives, like disciplines and trials.
The branch must be connected to the vine so that the sap can flow into it.
The Christian life is a struggle and always will be.
Full sanctification will only come with glorification but there will be transformation. He who began a good work will finish it. Do you have victory over sin? God does not desire that His Son be connected with dead, fruitless vines. Others in order to make the vine beautiful He will remove them. He'll take you out of a genuine church so that you will no longer corrupt it.
Fruit has to do with everything that has to do with Christ
Christ is carrying out his monstrosity with you.
Does anyone get a heavenly flavor from you, is anyone impacted in a biblical way, are sinners convicted by coming in contact with you? Does anyone see worldliness when they look at you? Just think am I fruitful? How am I fruitful?
Sometimes believers get confused and take facts as promises. Jesus is the vine- that's a fact. You are the branch, but He's not saying that you have to do something to become the branch, you already are. And as a branch you are going to bear fruit- that also is a fact. There's no question ever in Scripture that the believer will bear fruit, even the least Christian in the bible bears 30 fold fruit.
It doesn't have the same bark, it doesn't have the same leaf, it doesn't bear the same fruit, it is dead and unconnected to the vine.
We culitvate our spiritual life so that we may bear more fruit. A physical branch cannot have fruit of itself, the brance must be connected to the vine.
The believer cannot bear fruit of itself, you can't do anything. Your not being humble by saying I can't do this or this is beyond me, you can't do anything and to think you can is absurd, if you think that you can't do anyting apart from the power of Christ you can do anything.
Picture a mental image of Samson in your mind. What did you picture? An incredible hulk? See we automatically think physically, carnally. If he was an incredible hulk then it would've been easy to see where he got his strength, but his strength came from God and the power of the holy spirit.

After the Sunday morning service Dad took us out to CancĂșn for lunch!

Momma, Sethyboy and Felicity

 Stephanie, Hannah and Chariti

After lunch we went back to Grace Community for the 3pm service where Paul Washer gave the final sermon :The Impossibility of the Christian Life Part 4
Mom liked these stained glass windows

For the evening sermon he delivered the final part in this sermon series: The Impossibility of the Christian Life Part 4

It was an awesome experience to hear Paul Washer speak again! Make sure you go check out the links to his sermons, I have all of the links sermons posted above. You will definitely be edified and it will be well worth your time to listen to his sermons! I've never heard another modern day pastor like him who can preach so uncommonly powerfully! We like to listen to Paul Washer especially so when we need to be refocused on Christ, Paul Washer just has a way of magnifying Christ and the gospel in all of his sermons that is so refreshing and soul-strengthening!
