It Matters What Translation You Use - New Developments on the New Gender Neutral NIV

Remember the 2002 controversy over the TNIV's gender neutral version and the opposition it raised? In a recent USA Today piece, it is reported that this controversy, "was greeted with horror by traditionalists and scholars. Wayne Grudem, author of The TNIV and the Gender-Neutral Bible Controversy and a professor of the Bible and theology at Phoenix Seminary in Scottsdale, Ariz., spotted 3,000 places where words such as "man," "father," "son," "brother" and "he" vanished." Randy Stinson and Wayne Grudem of the Council for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, offered some helpful analysis of the new version. But the struggle over gender neutral language did not end with the TNIV. Zondervan is releasing a new revision of the NIV which, according to Trevin Wax, retains "its overall commitment to gender neural translation philosophy." John Dyer has posted a graph that illustrates the situation. The NIV2011 is slated to replace both the NIV1984 and the TNIV, which will no longer be sold.
