Apple Picking

"He keeps saying he is going to come back to take care of his trees. This orchard was his life."
~The son of the orchard keeper
Every year we pick our apples at the same place, this year was a little different.
We went to the same place, but the owner (whom we talked to every time we went there) wasn't there.
We found out from one of his sons and neighbor that he had been in the hospital for about 8 months having complications after his open heart surgery in January. The orchards had been unattended ever since, his son has no interest in the orchard at all. We were able to go and pick whatever apples we could for no cost but more valuable was the reality of it all. These verses sum it up rather well.

19And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.' 20But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' 21So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God."
 Luke 12:18-20

13Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit."
14Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.
15Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that."
James 4:13-15

This picture brings me back regency times, the girls look so pretty-

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
